  • Construction work such as this drywall sanding has some hazards that need to be addressed.
  • In this case, the worker is wearing an N-95 respirator and using the OSHA required mitigation of the HEPA vacuum system to prevent dry-wall dust from becoming airborne
  • One of the main health hazards around sanding, grinding, sawing, jack-hammering work is the risk of silicosis, which severely impacts the lungs.
  • It is very important to have a vacuum system or water feed system to prevent dust from becoming airborne.

  • Next to fall protection violations, is HAZCOM and HAZMAT.
  • No program as required by 29 CFR 1910.1200, no training, missing safety Data Sheets, no written inventory of all hazardous materials, improper storage of hazardous materials, and the list goes on.
  • It is not easy to set-up a HAZCOM Program, but you set one up it is not to hard to keep it up and running.

  • Missing machine guards as required by 29 CFR 1910.21, is very common. I see a lot of that on angle grinders because most workers hate having those guards on as they are a pain but you must have them, so you don’t lose your face when the cutting disc breaks into a million pieces

  • OSHA and NFPA electrical safety violations are very common. This mainly falls under both General Industry and the Construction Industry laws along with NFPA (NEC 70 and NFPA 70E
  • Very common violations are improper wiring like this double tapping on bottom left CB. Blocked electrical panels I see all the time, exposed wiring due to cover is removed or not on correctly, missing arc-flash labels, knock-out covers missing, broken-off ground prongs, damaged cords, cords used as permanent wiring, missing GFCI, missing or damaged ground protection
